Fred has a lot on his mind. The origins of the universe, for starters. The fabric of space-time, too. The formation of the Earth, plate tectonics, the fossil record, gravitational waves, dark matter, winding valley roads, campfires, pottery cafes—the list goes on and on. There’s also the matter of the giant salty egg, the man in the comfy blue chair, and the burning question: “Is this good? What I’m doing? With my time?”
Performed and sound designed by Stewart Legere with projections by Christian Ludwig Hansen, lighting by Jessica Lewis, costumes, set and props designed by Leesa Hamilton, and directed by Ben Stone, “Final Recordings” is where TED Talk, sob story, and cottagecore collide.

Join us for a low-key, bird-based chat with Wesley Petite, tour guide of The Friends of the Halifax Public Gardens Weekly Bird Tour.
He'll share some of what he knows, and you can bring some of your questions and facts, too! Then together, like a murmuration of birds, we'll walk over to Alderney Landing [Eastern Front Theatre] to enjoy the show.

Stewart Legere
co-creator, sound designer, performer
Stewart Legere is a queer multidisciplinary artist from Punamu'kwati’jk/Dartmouth, where he lives with his partner, their cats, and a small flock of spirited chickens. He is the Associate Artistic Director of ZUPPA, and co-Artistic Director of interdisciplinary contemporary performance company The Accidental Mechanics Group. His work has been presented across the country and around the world. A writer, singer-songwriter, composer and performer, he finds great joy in hosting, running, walking, cooking, arguing, drinking wine, writing, and exploring the nooks and crannies of melancholy. His work celebrates performance, vulnerability, and the dismantling of persona. He thrives in the messy excitement of collaboration. He has very good friends. Ben Stone
Director and Co-creator
Ben (he/him) is one of the co-founders of Zuppa. He is a deviser, performer, producer, teacher, director, writer and administrator. Work outside of Zuppa includes: Two Planks and a Passion, Festival Antigonish, Saint John Theatre Company, Shakespeare by the Sea, Vertical City Performance, The Doppler Effect, Neptune Theatre School, Dalhousie University and Opera Nova Scotia. A specialist in devised creation and performance he has taught courses, classes and workshops to amateurs, pre-professionals and professionals at places like: Dalhousie, Acadia, King’s, U of T, UCB, MSVU, Cleveland State, University of Calgary, Magnetic North Theatre Festival, Neptune Theatre and Armbrae Academy. Ben studied at Dalhousie University’s Theatre Department and L’Ecole Philippe Gaulier in London, England.
Leesa Hamilton
Costume, Set and Props Designer
Leesa Hamilton (She/Her) is a costume designer, community arts practitioner, teacher and facilitator based in Kjjipuktuk/Halifax. She is an Assistant Professor in Fashion with NSCAD University. She has designed costume and set for over 30 productions but has been focusing more on mentoring emerging designers. Leesa has been with ‘Final Recordings of an Almost Extinct Bird’ from the beginning when it was a small group of artists in Parrsboro learning about rocks and thinking about time. She is grateful to Zuppa for their ‘all in’ process and for inviting her to make and learn with them.

Sophie Schade
Producer
Sophie Schade (she/her) has been a frequent collaborator with ZUPPA since 2018 (This Is Nowhere). She took on the role of permanent part-time producer in the autumn of 2023.
Sophie is an actor, theatre worker and assistant director based in Halifax/Kjipuktuk. She studied theatre and physics at Dalhousie University and has since branched out to producing, stage management, projections, video editing and film.
Recent work credits include: The Institute (MGM), The Lifespan of a Mattress (Think of the Worst Theatre), Long Distance Relationships (2b Theatre), The Movements, At This Hour and This Is Nowhere (Zuppa Theatre), From: Season 2 (MGM), The Station (BARE Theatre), Washington Black (Disney), Henry V, The Wizard of Oz, and Love’s Labour’s Lost (Shakespeare by the Sea), Listen to the Wind and Macbeth (Steady Theatre Co.), What to Expect When You Aren’t Expected (Annie Valentina), and various shows for Dalhousie.
