CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS: The Pitch Room

Updated: 6 days ago

Event Details

Date: Saturday, June 7

Time: 2:00–4:00 PM

Location: Alderney Landing Theatre Rotunda

Submission Deadline: May 12

Submission Fee: To be eligible for consideration, applicants MUST pre-register for the Industry Series. Cost: $60.

The Pitch Room gives artists the opportunity to present their work to a panel of industry experts—festival curators, producers, and presenters—who offer real-time feedback in a supportive, public setting.

This year’s invited cohort includes presenters from across Canada and around the world:

Kate Craddock – GIFT Festival (UK)

Megan Stewart – River Clyde Pageant (PEI)

Oliver Armstrong – High Performance Rodeo (Calgary)

Lynnette Moran – Live Collision (Ireland)

Carla Nobre Sousa – Alkantara Festival (Portugal)

Tiff Zhang – Baltic Circle Festival (Finland)

Pitch Room is about more than just pitching. It’s a conversation about the current realities of touring, programming, and what it takes to share work beyond your home context. What makes a project tour-ready? What challenges do programmers face, and what changes would make it easier for artists to be seen?

Who Should Apply?

Independent artists and theatre collectives working in live performance who are interested in taking their work beyond Nova Scotia. Your project can be new or touring-ready—we welcome a range of stages and scales. This is a chance to strengthen your pitch, get feedback from presenters, and build new networks.

What to Expect

  • A 5-minute pitch of your project, focusing on ideas, goals, and touring potential.

  • A 15-minute conversation with a panel of national and international presenters.

  • A room full of supportive peers who learn by observing the process.

  • A chance to gain insight into how programmers make decisions—and how artists can shape those conversations.

New This Year: Conversation-Based Submissions

This year, we’re replacing the traditional pitch application with something a little more relaxed: a short, informal conversation. Between May 13-16, applicants will meet with members of the Industry Series team for a 20-minute chat about their project.

Consider it a collaborative interview—a chance to discuss your idea together rather than submitting a full pitch deck.

To book your conversation, we’ll ask you to submit a brief written summary (max one page or a short paragraph) about your project. This doesn’t need to be polished—just enough to help us understand what you’re exploring and where it’s at in development.

During the conversation, we’ll ask questions from the usual pitch deck criteria:

  • What inspired your project?

  • What will audiences experience?

  • What sets this apart, and why now?

  • What’s the current status of the work?

  • Who’s involved in making it?

  • What are you hoping for (touring, partners, feedback)?

  • Why do you want to pitch this work now?

Five participants will be selected to pitch at the June 7 session after these conversations.

Key Dates

  • Submission Deadline: May 12

  • Chat Booking: Between May 13-16

  • Final Participant Notification: By May 20

Helpful Hints

  • Be clear about what drives you and your project—emotion matters.

  • Let us know what you need and what success would look like.

  • Prepare for conversation, not just presentation.

  • It’s okay if your project isn’t finished—clarity of vision is just as valuable.
