AUDITION CALL: The Ghost of Violet Shaw


Eastern Front Theatre is holding auditions for the world premiere of THE GHOST OF VIOLET SHAW by Katerina Bakolias, directed by Kat McCormack. This production is being presented as part of Neptune Theatre’s 2025-2026 Season on the Scotiabank Studio Stage in Halifax/Kjipuktuk. Rehearsals start April 7th 2026, opening May 1st 2026 and closing May 24th 2026. Auditions will be in-person at Alderney Landing in Downtown Dartmouth/Punamu’kwati’jk on Friday, January 23rd 2026. Deadline to submit is January 11th 2026. Successful applicants will be sent sides to prepare for group auditions. We will accept self-tapes for those unable to make the in-person auditions. AUDITIONS OPEN TO LOCAL ACTORS ONLY.


ETHNOCULTURAL MANDATE OR CASTING STATEMENT

EFT welcomes submissions from all artists, especially those who self-identify as being underrepresented in Canadian theatre (including, but not limited to: IBPOC artists, Deaf and disabled artists, artists with mental health disorders and chronic illnesses, new Canadians and immigrant artists, transgender and queer artists, etc). 


If there are any barriers preventing you from submitting, please reach out and we will work to accommodate you and/or remove those barriers from our own practice. Please describe any considerations that may make your audition more accessible for you (ie. ASL interpretation, support person, etc). If you have an access rider, feel free to send it in advance.

CHARACTER BREAKDOWN

DELILAH BENNETT (she/her) 

Delilah is a theatrical and eccentric middle-aged woman who is passionate about spiritualism and the arts. She is glamorous and loud, with a flair for the dramatic. Delilah is a former actress who is consumed by her grief and focused on contacting the spirit of her lost love, Violet.


EDWARD SHAW (he/him) 

Edward is a charming and ambitious young man in his late twenties. He is confident and a little maniacal, with a desire to marry into the family for personal gain. Edward is manipulative and calculating, always looking to take advantage of a situation.


VIC (they/them) 

Vic is a non-binary and enigmatic individual who is an actor and poses as a medium named "Magnificent Morrigan." They are quick-witted, able to adapt to different roles and situations with ease, and so so in love with Rose.


BAXTER (he/him)

Baxter is a gruff man involved in criminal activities and doesn’t take kindly to Edward blowing him off. He is secretive and ruthless. Baxter is wanted for questioning in a murder investigation. (NOTE: The actor playing Baxter will also play the Mailman and Violet when - in a wild mishap - Baxter gets possessed by her ghost. Violet is Baxter’s exact opposite: Kind, compassionate, caring, and motherly.)
