Pitch Prep Study Group

This workshop aims to provide artists with the essential skills of creating and pitching concepts in the theatre industry, involving interactive exercises that promote dialogue, collaboration, and critical evaluation of ideas. By the end of the workshop, participants will have developed individual and/or group pitches, which they will present for feedback.

Dustin Harvey is an experimental theatre maker based in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. He trained as an actor at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art in England and holds a BA in Theatre Studies from Acadia University. Dustin's work has been presented in national and international festivals and exhibitions, including SXSW (Austin, Texas), IDFA (Amsterdam), BelfastXR (Northern Ireland), EXPERIMENTICA (Cardiff), RIFF (Iceland), Aarhus Festival (Denmark), Cork Midsummer Festival (Cork), Lokal (Reykjavik), A! Festival (Akureyri, Iceland), Forest Fringe (Edinburgh), High-Performance Rodeo (Calgary), OFFTA (Montreal), Festival Images des Temps (Usine-C, Montreal), SummerWorks (Toronto), Magnetic North Theatre Festival (Whitehorse), Impact Theatre Festival (Kitchener), Prismatic Festival (Halifax), FoldA (Kingston), Art In The Open (Charlottetown), Nocturne (Halifax), RCA Theatre (St.John's), Imperial (Saint John), Nakai (Whitehorse), Uno (Victoria), CIFF (Calgary).  Additionally, Dustin's writings on performance have been featured in Canadian Theatre Review, Les Possibles, and KLAXON Magazine. He also authored a chapter titled "Make What You Need," published in the book "In Defense Of Theatre: Aesthetic Practices and Social Interventions" by Toronto University Press. Inspired by post-dramatic forms and feelings of future nostalgia, Dustin constantly pushes the boundaries of his medium, exploring new techniques and materials to express his vision of co-creation. In 2021, Dustin was selected for the inaugural UK-Canada Immersive Exchange, a talent development and co-production program for future leaders of immersive storytelling.

Richie Wilcox, originally from Cape Breton, is a multi-talented actor/director/singer who has worked across Canada for numerous theatre companies over the past 20 years including Neptune, 2B Theatre, Irondale, Canadian Stage, Opera Nova Scotia, Festival Antigonish and New West Theatre. Wilcox is a founding member of Halifax based Angels & Heroes with whom he developed his craft directing shows such as Fewer Emergencies, The Pitchfork Disney and Trestle at Pope Lick Creek. Wilcox worked for eight years at Festival Antigonish Summer Theatre in roles with increasing levels of responsibility and contribution until he was directing the Young Company, creating original musicals, and founding an alternative venue for the company titled Stage Two with an ensemble of creative provocateurs. Wilcox is Artistic Associate for Lethbridge-based Theatre Outré where he’s directed the world premieres of Castrati: An Electro Drag Opera, How To Leave and UNSEX’d along with co-directing Wallace Shawn's A Thought In Three Parts. Wilcox directed the world premiere of Daniel MacIvor’s I, Animal at Summerworks and the Supernova Theatre Festival and is the volume editor of New Essays on Canadian Theatre: Daniel MacIvor. Wilcox has also directed Girls! Girls! Girls! for Halifax's Angels & Heroes and Late Company for Theatre Outré. His work has been seen across Canada and toured internationally.  Wilcox has been an instructor at the University of Lethbridge for four years in the Drama Department and is currently working on his PhD from York University. Wilcox was awarded the Halifax Mayor's Award for Emerging Theatre Artist in 2007.
