STAGES THEATRE FESTIVAL 2023
Call for Submissions

We are pleased to announce a call for submissions for our 30th annual STAGES Theatre Festival as well as our second-ever EARLY Stages Festival!

Dates for the festivals are
February 13 - 18 and June 6 - 11, 2023, in and around Alderney Landing in Downtown Dartmouth/Punamu’kwati’jk, Nova Scotia/Mi'kma'ki.

STAGES aims to present accessible, innovative and entertaining shows at different stages of development by artists at different stages of their careers. We are looking for productions aimed at both mature and youth audiences, with a maximum running time of 75 minutes, short turnaround times and/or minimal set up and teardown. We will consider traditional theatre productions and site-specific pieces, and are particularly interested in installation pieces and non-traditional theatrical experiences. EARLY STAGES highlights the creative process behind new works with play readings and work-in-progress showings.

Preference will be given to shows that are created by Atlantic Canadian artists or tell Atlantic Canadian stories, but we welcome submissions from across Canada and the rest of the world. We are especially keen to support artists and stories from communities that are currently underrepresented in Canadian theatre (including but not limited to IBPOC and Deaf and disabled artists). If you are a member of an underrepresented community, we invite you to self-identify in your application.

Proposals will be accepted via Google Form until September 1st 2022. Applicants will then be able to book a casual, 30-minute interview to chat about their submission between September 6th and 16th 2022. Our goal is to confirm projects by early October 2022.

If you require assistance with any part of your application, please email Kat@EasternFrontTheatre.com
