EFT’s Micro Digital Creation Project
How can theatre exist in a digital world?
What is the possible impact of theatre in a digital world?
How could “digital theatre” create positive change to our greater Canadian society?

How could “digital theatre” create positive change to our greater Canadian society?
Eastern Front Theatre will commission 20 Atlantic Canadian theatre (and theatre-adjacent) artists of all backgrounds to create new digital works that bring theatre online.
The goal of this project is three-fold:
Successful applicants will receive a commission fee of $500. The final product must be in a digital format - any and all digital formats will be accepted! Regardless of format, all work that “plays” must be no longer than 60 seconds in duration. Projects could be a 30-second MP3 monologue on creating societal change, a PDF of a dream set design for a pandemic production, or a “live” 60-second performance on IGTV. Surprise us, and yourself! This is a chance to play and create. Dramaturgical and “sounding board” support will be provided by EFT’s new AD, Kat McCormack.
Artists can work solo or in pairs. EFT is happy to foster a “buddy system” to partner like-minded individual artists from different provinces to work together online. Please indicate in your application if you’d like to chat about this option.
The finished projects will be featured online on our website and social media platforms. There is also the potential for relevant projects to be submitted to the National Transformations Project where they may be featured on the National Arts Centre platform.
We are committed to allocating at least 50% of these grants to artists from communities that are currently underrepresented in Canadian theatre (including but not limited to IBPOC and Deaf and disabled artists).
Application deadline was Sunday, September 27th.
