Crypthand delves into 19th century diarist Anne Lister's boarding school days where she developed a secret code to record her relationship with her first love, Eliza. Crypthand is a whirlwind of Greek myths, making out, the challenges of going against the norm and bringing gay history in the 21st century.

The Team

Lily Falk is an emerging theatre artist living in K'jipuktuk (Halifax). She is co-artistic director of Gale Force Theatre and an emerging sound designer with Neptune Theatre's 2019/20 Chrysalis Project. Her first play, Crypthand, was developed at the 2019 PARC Colony and won the Best Original Script award at the 2019 Halifax Fringe Festival. When she isn't writing, her work spans puppetry, audio storytelling, and devised creation.

Franziska Glen is actor, puppeteer and theatre maker new to Halifax. She is co-artistic director of Gale Force Theatre and performed in their inaugural show Crypthand, for the 2019 Halifax Fringe Festival. After completed three international tours with Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia's show The Rainbow Fish, Franziska spent the summer of 2019 at Bread and Puppet as an apprentice puppeteer to their circus and pageant shows. Franziska also works and creates in French. She is currently developing Satellite Théâtre's newest show and directing Antioche for Théâtre DesAssimlés.

Anna Shepard is a multidisciplinary artist based in K'jipuktuk/Halifax, currently working in direction, projection design, and devised creation. She is particularly interested in work that is viscerally engaging, investigates the complexities of its characters, and harnesses the social and political voice inherent to live performance. Shepard is a graduate of the drama program at Mount Allison University, was the 2017/18 Emerging-Artist-In-Residence at 2b theatre company, and recently trained with Ghost River Theatre in Calgary as part of their National Devised Theatre Intensive. She is currently part of the 2019/20 Directing Unit of the Chrysalis Project at Neptune Theatre.

Laura is a co-artistic director of Keep Good (Theatre) Company in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Her recent directing credits include, Love and Information (The fountain school of performing arts), The Children (Keep Good (Theatre) Company), Miss N’ Me (Eastern Front Theatre) Interactions with Art (Halifax Theatre for Young People) Time of Trouble (Opera Nova Scotia) Constellations (Keep Good (Theatre) Company). She recently completed a year at the Stratford Festival working as an assistant director under Nigel Shawn Williams and was a member of the Michael Langham Workshop for Classical Direction. In 2015, she graduated from The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in Glasgow with a Masters in Theatre Directing.
