Accessibility Project

Eastern Front Theatre (EFT) is looking for a Project Coordinator for our Accessibility Project.

The Accessibility Project is an initiative to create more accessible live performance spaces and rehearsal settings for community members and artists who typically face barriers ─ whether physical, neurological, cultural, or economic.

Our goal is to create theatre spaces that allow all people to feel welcome, safe, and considered. We aim to create live performances where all people are able to fully experience and appreciate the programming. Our intent is to then share this knowledge freely with other live performance venues and companies throughout the province.

The Project Coordinator will facilitate all aspects and execution of the project according to the timeline, and will be actively involved in every step, including, but not limited to:
  • Reach out to organizations that represent underserved and underrepresented populations
  • Seek out individuals to be hired as Community Consultants for the project
  • Work collaboratively with Community Consultants
  • Schedule zoom meetings with Consultants and regular check-ins with EFT staff
  • Collect and analyze research
  • Create a list of barriers to attending theatre
  • Create a list of implementable actions to overcome those barriers
  • Create Venue Audits to evaluate the accessibility of their building, communications, and potentially, their overall brand
  • Make policy recommendations based on information learned
  • Make recommendations to test initiatives at STAGES 2021 in June
  • Collect audience/participant/volunteer feedback to measure success/impact
  • Write a comprehensive report about the Project to be shared within the theatre community, with all the collaborating organizations and groups, and be available online

Skills and Qualifications:
  • Able to work independently and set own deadlines
  • Effective interpersonal skills
  • Strong written communication
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Comfort with online software like Zoom, Slack, Google Suite, etc.
  • Experience with Project Management, Research Analysis, Policy Development, or other relevant work experience
  • Personal interest in the initiative

This is an approximately 6 month contract that will run from date of hiring to August 31, 2021. We are anticipating 150 hours of work with compensation set at $4000, with the majority of the hours able to be completed remotely. This contract is based in Halifax/Kjipuktuk but is open to residents of Nova Scotia.

We value diversity in our workforce and we invite applications from all qualified candidates, especially those who self-identify from traditionally underrepresented communities. If you need accommodation at any stage of the application process then please do not hesitate to make a request.

Interested candidates should send a cover letter and resume that clearly demonstrate their qualifications and interest in the position to:
